SoundCloud cuts 41% of staff as streaming music business melts down
I used to post a full length track from each album on SoundCloud, but I replaced them with short edits when they started charging listeners. At the same time, I cancelled my SoundCloud Pro account: why should I pay to post if they charge people to listen? Especially when they don’t pass those revenues on to independent guys like me?
I fully understand that free levels remain available to both listeners and creators, but by shifting to a business model that charges listeners without compensating most of the contributors is a business model I cannot support: the conflict of interest is so strong.
There embeddable players sure are flexible, though…
