Binaural Beats and Creative Thinking

In which we point to research that says listening to binaural beats boost creative thinking.

What is the intersection between binaural beats and creativity? Can listening to binaural beats boost creative thinking?

Yes, at least according to this piece of research conducted in the Netherlands by The Institute for Psychological Research and Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition at Leiden University indicating that divergent thinking is systematically affected by Alpha / Gamma binaural beats.

Divergent thinking is systematically affected by Alpha / Gamma binaural beat stimulation

2013 Susan A. Reedijk, Anne Bolders and Bernhard Hommel The Impact Of Binaural Beats On Creativity, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience

The team found that listening to binaural beats will boost cognitive function when performing creative tasks, but there was not a significant difference between Alpha and Gamma stimulation.

One possible interpretation is that different types of binaural beats do not facilitate specific creative process types but rather support a general function that improves overall cognition. That is to say, listening to Alpha binaural beats doesn’t support one type of creativity while listening to Gamma brainwave entrainment supports another.
