Tuning into the Cosmos: The Hans Cousto Method

In 1978, Cousto formulated The Cosmic Octave, a method used to transpose the orbital periods — the amount of time it takes for one object to complete a full orbit around another object — of heavenly objects such as planets and moons into the range of human hearing. By bridging astronomy and acoustics, Cousto gives us a way to “tune” ourselves to the natural rhythms of the macrocosm.

The Law of Octaves

Cousto’s method relies on a simple physical principle: doubling. If you take a very slow vibration (like the time it takes Earth to orbit the Sun) and then you keep doubling its frequency, you eventually reach a vibration that the human ear can perceive as a musical note. (Not for nothing, this is precisely how I bring all kinds of frequencies, “sacred” or otherwise, into my work. It’s all about the octaves, folks!)

Anyway, the fountain from which these cosmic frequencies flow can be found at https://www.planetware.de/octave/

f2nf \cdot 2^n

Where “f” is the original frequency (1 divided by the period in seconds) and ”n” is the number of octaves required to reach the audible spectrum.
